Assistance League's Connie Pollom named Jefferson Award Winner

Connie Pollom is the new Jefferson Award recipient for the Central Indiana area for her philanthropic work with the Assistance League of Indianapolis. The award was presented by RTV6 news anchor Jenna Kooi at the Operation School Bell shop. The Jefferson Awards are sponsored by the American Institute for Public Service to recognize, inspire and activate volunteerism and public service in communities, workplaces and schools across America. Kroger/Moeder SHOES Day... What a great event!

Assistance League of Indianapolis orchestrated a special day for Indianapolis Public Schools' Daniel Webster Family Academy. All 440-plus students received a pair of shoes, socks and a toy courtesy of the family of Bob Moeder, president of Kroger's Central Division, and Pacers Sports & Entertainment. Also partnering for this special day were Shoe Carnival and Dr. Robert Fallon of Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and his wife, Melissa. The students met players from the Indianapolis Pacers and the WNBA champions Indiana Fever, Fever coach Lin Dunn, the Pacemates, and Boomer.

Over 1,000 underserved students were all smiles as they received brand new shoes and 2 pairs of socks through SHOES: A Division of Operation School Bell. Students from Pike, Warren, Lawrence and Washington Townships were transported to the Shoe Carnival near Castleton this November where they were fitted for their new shoes with the help of Assistance League members and Shoe Carnival employees.
