Operation School Bell ®
2,981 Students Benefit From Operation School Bell - Monday, November 14, 2011

Another successful year for Operation School Bell has come to a close.  Over 51 days, from August 18th through November 14th, 2,981 disadvantaged Indianapolis school children shopped with Assistance League of Indianapolis volunteers for new school clothing, school supplies, underwear, hygene kits and books.  The Indianapolis Public Schools and the Metropolitan School Districts of Warren, Washington, Lawrence and Pike Townships sent students choosen by school personnel to shop at Operation School Bell.

Kroger/Moeder Shoe Event - Friday, December 16, 2011

426 students at Indianapolis Public School 346 received a new pair of athletic shoes and socks on December 16, 2011.  The children ranged in age from Kindergarten to 8th grade.  Shoes: A division of Operation School Bell helped facilitate the Kroger/Moeder shoe event, the Moeders purchased the shoes and a friend of theirs provided the socks.  Seventeen Assistance League members worked at the event and eight Shoes Carnival employees measured and fit the children.

Guests that day were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moeder, Kroger representative, John Elliot, and former principal, Phyllis Imel.  Pacer's Mascot, Boomer and two Pacemates added to the festivities.

 
945 Students From Township Schools Receive New Athletic Shoes - Friday, October 14, 2011

Over three days in October, Assistance League members helped fit 945 underserved school students from the following Metropolitan School Districts:  Pike - 193 students, Warren - 253 students, Washington - 268 students, and Lawrence - 231 students with new athletic shoes and socks.

Students attending the Indianapolis Public School will receive their shoes in February to finish our goal of providig 2,600 disadvantaged Indianapolis students with new athletic shoes and socks.

 
Assault Survivor Kits ®
Nearly 200 Kits Delivered To Local Agencies - Friday, September 30, 2011

The Assault Survivor Kits Program has set its goal to distribute up to 995 clothing kits and 955 underwear items this year to hospitals and agencies based in central Indiana.  Between June 1st and September 30th, 195 Assault Survivor Kits, 490 underwear items and 53 hygiene supplies have been delivered to area agencies.

From June through December 2011 the Assault Survivor Kit program delivered 324 kits, 554 underwear items and 61 hygiene products to Indianapolis-area hospitals and agencies that serve victims of assault.  These items, valued at over $5,000, will help provide a sense of hope and dignity to assault victims being treated at the following hospitals:

  • Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital
  • Madison County Sexual Assault Treatment Center,
  • Pediatric Center of Hope at Riley Hospital
  • Tipton Hospital
  • Community Hospitals
  • The Julian Center
  • St. Vincent Hospital Carmel
  • Hendricks Regional Health
  • St. John's Hospital
  • Hancock Regional Hospital
  • Riverview Hospital
