ALI Friends
Offering friendship and cheer

For many of our adult and senior citizens, the “golden years” often become the “lonely years”.  Frequently, their loneliness is complicated with physical and sometimes mental challenges.  And, while some of them may have loving families to care for them, many of their families are stretched trying to meet all of their family obligations.

ALI Friends

Gifts of Time and Friendship are the Cornerstone of ALI Friends

The ALI Friends program was established in 1990 by Assistance League of Indianapolis (ALI) to offer companionship and caring to enhance the lives of older or disabled adults.

In 2010-2011 Assistance League members planned and participated in a variety of activities and parties for over 615 clients at Joy's House and North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

What We Give

Assistance League members organize and actively participate in seasonal and monthly birthday parties, play games, read with the guest/residents, enjoy music, and provide desserts for the parties at both facilities. The birthday people are given handpicked gifts choosen especially for them and at the Christmas party every senior receives a gift.

ALI Friends also addresses the needs of the building at the facilities.  Joy's House has been provided items needed for patient comfort such as a TV, stove, furniture and a freezer.   North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been provided a flat screen television which brings hours of entertainment to the residents. These items are funded by the ALI Friend's annual budget.

Who We Give To
Year round, Assistance League members go to each facility monthly.  ALI Friends currently visit the following sites:

  • North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at 2010 North Capitol Avenue
How We Make A Difference
"I see the guests on a daily basis and how they react to different people who walk in the door...our guests may not remember your name...but they remember your face and they remember how embracing you are and they remember you bring them good things and feelings."

Tina McIntosh, President, Joy's House

Your Donation Helps Our Community

Monies realized from our fundraising efforts are returned to the community through our four philanthropic programs.  Services are made possible through private gifts, grants, and donations.  During the 2010-2011 fiscal year, eighty six cents of every dollar spent went to support our programs to help the underserved in the greater Indianapolis area.

Assistance League of Indianapolis is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
