Assistance League members organize and actively participate in a variety of activities for guests at Joy’s House and residents of North Capitol. Everyone benefits from the visits and parties. These activities include games, reading, music, and clerical help. ALI Friends also hosts monthly birthday parties and the birthday people are given handpicked gifts choosen especially for them. Assistance League members give seasonal parties and at the Christmas party Santa gives every senior a gift.
In addition to companionship, ALI Friends also addressed some of the physical needs of both locations. We purchase special items needed for patient comfort and for the facility. In the past, we have supplied much needed items such as a TV, stove and a freezer for Joy's House. Additionaly at Joy's House we provided furniture and accessories for "ALI's ALCOVE". A couch, an end table and two chairs were funded from the ALI Friends annual budget and from direct donations by Assistance League members. Similiarly, ALI Friends responded to a need at North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for a flat screen television. Funded from the program's annual budget, this gift will bring hours of entertainment to the residents.
