ALI Friends
Providing companionship

For many of our adult and senior citizens, the “golden years” often become the “lonely years”.  Frequently, their loneliness is complicated with physical and sometimes mental challenges.  And, while some of them may have loving families to care for them, many of their families are stretched trying to meet all of their family obligations.

ALI Friends

The gift of time and friendship is the cornerstone of our ALI Friends program. Assistance League members help to fill in the days for the guests of Joy’s House and the residents at North Captitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Our members initiate parties celebrating the holidays and birthdays, organize games, and conduct sessions of singing which help to create new memories.

The ALI Friends program was established in 1990 to offer companionship and caring to enhance and improve the quality of life for older adults. This past year Assistance League members planned and participated in a variety of activities and parties for over 615 clients at Joy’s House and North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

What We Give

Assistance League members organize and actively participate in a variety of activities for guests at Joy’s House and residents of North Capitol. Everyone benefits from the visits and parties. These activities include games, reading, music, and clerical help. ALI Friends also hosts monthly birthday parties and the birthday people are given handpicked gifts choosen especially for them.  Assistance League members give seasonal parties and at the Christmas party Santa gives every senior a gift.

In addition to companionship, ALI Friends also addressed some of the physical needs of both locations.  We purchase special items needed for patient comfort and for the facility.  In the past, we have supplied much needed items such as a TV, stove and a freezer for Joy's House.  Additionaly at Joy's House we provided furniture and accessories for "ALI's ALCOVE".   A couch, an end table and two chairs were funded from the ALI Friends annual budget and from direct donations by Assistance League members.  Similiarly, ALI Friends responded to a need at North Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for a flat screen television.  Funded from the program's annual budget, this gift will bring hours of entertainment to the residents.

How We Make A Difference
"I see the guests on a daily basis and how they react to different people who walk in the door...our guests may not remember your name...but they remember your face and they remember how embracing you are and they remember you bring them good things and feelings."

Tina McIntosh, President, Joy's House

Your Donation Helps Our Community

Monies realized from our fundraising efforts are returned to the community through our four philanthropic programs.  Services are made possible through private gifts, grants, and donations.  During the 2008-2009 fiscal year, eighty eight cents of every dollar spent went to support our programs to help the underserved in the greater Indianapolis area.
