Since the Assault Survivor Kits inception in 1994, this program has expanded to meet the growing need in the community and now serves 19 area hospitals and agencies at 20 locations, including communities in Boone, Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Madison, Marion and Tipton counties. Kits now are provided to facilities that specifically serve children.
Following an assault, the victims' clothing is usually retained by authorities as evidence and the victim is often left with a paper gown to wear home. This adds to their trauma. The new clothing, provided through the Assault Survivor Kits program, is a welcome comfort to victims of assault, helping to restore a sense of dignity.
Members of Assistance League purchase the clothing, pack kits, contact the agencies for needed quantites then schedule deliveries to the facilities. Our kits help restore a sense of dignity to the victims by providing them new, warm clothing to wear when they leave for home.
Assistance League has distributed more than 10,100 clothing kits and 11,300 undergarments to Indianapolis area agencies since 1994 through May, 2011,
