The Ada Edwards Laughlin Award is named for the co-foounder of National Assistance League who remained "less visible". Recipients are those that exemplify someone who works very hard, but often stays behind the scenes.
The following narrative, written by Vickie Theis, explains why Barb Mohr is so deserving of this award:

Barbara Mohr, who received the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award at our Annual Meeting, is dedicated, passionate, reliable and always willing to help whenever needed.  She quietly works above what is expected of a member in the true “Ada spirit”.  Since joining Assistance League in 2009 she has recorded over 3,500 volunteer hours.

Nomination letters described Barbara as someone who:
  • fills the role of working hard “behind the scenes”
  • responds to every request with, “Yes, I can do that!”
  • completes jobs she accepts above and beyond your expectation
  • exemplifies excellent leadership skills
  • recognizes our greatest assets are our members
  • treats everyone with respect and dignity
  • is very welcoming to new members
  • helps train members who assume new responsibilities
  • shows compassion and devotion to our Chapter’s mission and our values
  • offers support and encouragement to members
  • always has a “warm smile for everyone”
Committee and Board positions Barbara has held in the past 10 years are:
  • Merchandise ‘Chair of the Day’ at Operation School Bell
  • Merchandise Chairman for Operation School Bell—three years
  • Vice Chairman of Operation School Bell
  • Chairman of Operation School Bell
  • Key member of the Relocation Committee when OSB moved from SCIPS to Forest Manor
  • 1st Vice President of Philanthropic Programs---three years
  • Numerous committees, projects and events
  • Administrative Committees including:  Budget, Bylaws, Policy, Education, Speakers Bureau, Membership, Strategic Planning, and all our Philanthropic Program Committees
Assistance League is very fortunate to have this special lady as a member, and part of the leadership of our Chapter, not just because of all the positions she has held and the hours she has volunteered, but all the work she has done, and continues to do, behind the scenes!
